Butterfly Paintings with Kindergarten

Butterfly Paintings with Kindergarten

Beautiful spring butterflies are a great way to end the school year.  Paint dotters give colorful results without a ton of mess. Kindergartners drew these with pencil first.  I read a suggestion from Patty Palmer on the art teacher Facebook group to use tracers for the top set of the wings to get the size proportional and then have the kids draw the bottom of the wings on their own.  Then they used paint dotters to create symmetrical designs on … Read more…

Penguin Collage Paintings with Kindergarteners

Penguin Collage Paintings with Kindergarteners

Thank you, Patty Palmer, for this fun penguin collage project idea! We used paint dotters to paint the backgrounds instead of paintbrushes (and I also didn’t get out all the extra collage supplies because so much of our stuff is in storage right now), but otherwise, you can see the steps on Patty’s website.

Halloween Pumpkin Painting Art Project for 1st Grade

Halloween Pumpkin Painting Art Project for 1st Grade

Watercolor Bird Paintings by First Graders

Watercolor Bird Paintings by First Graders

Still Life Paintings in the Middle School Art Class

From time to time, I will show you some artwork from the middle school classes.  I teach K-6 and Rebecca teaches the older students.  These paintings on canvas were particularly beautiful. Painting water and glass is definitely challenging, but these kids did an awesome job!  The 7th/8th graders set up their still lifes and took a photograph of the setup.  Then, they used acrylic paint to paint them. I will be picking the winner of the Smart Fab sample rolls … Read more…

Landscape Scroll Displays

Landscape Scroll Displays

How is your year going?  Ours is rapidly coming to a close.  There is so much to do… grading, finishing projects, finishing the yearbook, planning a middle school dance, inventory and cleaning the room!  Yikes, I don’t know about you, but April is the craziest month. I think in the summer, I am going to blog about some tips for organizing Student Council events.  Not that I am an expert, but since I’ve done it for about 7 years now, … Read more…
