Hey, Elementary Art Teachers! Are you looking for some fun winter art projects for kids to do right now?

Collage showing 15 winter art projects for kids, featuring snowmen, polar bears, penguins, trees, snowflakes, and a “Snowflake Starter” template.

I have lots of winter art projects I have done over the years.  Save this blog post, because you can look at these ideas later when you are out of ideas.

What are your favorite winter art projects for kids? Have you tried any of these?

If you have signed up for my newsletter, you have already received this fun round-up, but I figured it was something that would be useful to other art teachers as well who haven’t found my newsletter. (By clicking on that link to sign up, you will receive a FREE Sub Tub Guide – and who doesn’t like free?)

I want to make the disclaimer that although it may look like I do a ton of seasonal art, I promise you I don’t do snowflakes and snowmen all winter long!  We have lots of other important art lessons to cover!  These posts were compiled from the past 15 years of my blog.  Every year I pick a few to do with some of the kids.

1.  Winter Snowglobe Art Project

These are always a hit!  Check out these marker print snowglobes using coffee filters! For this project, all you have to do is color with washable markers on a coffee filter. Spray with water and then let dry. The next day, draw a snowman on white card stock and cut out. Add additional details with Sharpie. Use white paint to paint the snow on the ground and falling from the sky. Mount on to black paper. Super easy with stunning results.

2. Snowglobe Templates!

A hand-drawn winter snow globe scene reminiscent of children's books features a snowman, Christmas tree, cat, and mouse under a starry sky and crescent moon. Bordered by colored pencils with a "Happy Holidays!" message, it's perfect for festive art projects.

If you are looking for a simpler, easy to make snowglobe, check out this project with templates and guides.

3. Pop Art Snowman Project

This is a highly engaging project that involves decorating a snowman picture with lots of colors and pattern.  Check out all the details here.  I recommend this for grades 4 and up.

The Snowglobe & Pop Art Snowman project are also available as a BUNDLE to save $$.

4. Snowman Portraits Art Project

Child’s drawing of a snowman with a red hat, orange carrot nose, purple and blue scarf, and black buttons on a blue background—perfect inspiration for Winter Art Projects.

Use white paint and oil pastels (Amazon Affiliate links used) on colored paper to make close-up portraits of snowmen. I do this every year with my kinders!

5. Polar Bear Portraits

Very similar to the snowmen portraits are these polar bear portraits.  Add on hat and scarf with scrapbook paper!

Child’s drawing of a white mouse wearing a striped hat and scarf, set against a blue background with white star shapes—perfect inspiration for Winter Art Projects.

6. Penguin Art Project

A vibrant penguin collage created by kindergarteners showcases four colorful drawings of penguins labeled "Kindergarten Penguins.

And then there’s the penguin portraits! Check out the book Penguins Love Colors (Amazon Affiliate link used) to go along with this project.  Originally I found this lesson on Patty’s website years ago. The kindergartners study penguins in their classroom, so this is a perfect cross-curricular connection.

7. Penguin Clay Sculpture Trioramas

Another penguin themed project are these Penguin Sculpture Trioramas!  We used Model Magic to make the penguins.  I haven’t made a blog post about this, but I should do that!

8. Snowflake Starter Template

A colorful geometric design featuring floral elements in blue, green, purple, and pink.

Snowflake Starter Template: Use this free snowflake starter template to make your own snowflake drawing!

9. Snowman Puppets

Three homemade snowman puppets on sticks made from paper and colorful materials, featuring a princess, a snowman, and a superhero.

How many snowmen projects can we do?  The possibilities are endless!  Add a popsicle stick and you have some puppets!

10. Snowman Shading Project

Check out a recent blog post for details about the snowman shading project my students just finished.  We used a demonstration video from Sara Farell on Artsonia.

Three crayon drawings capture the essence of a festive snowman art project under a crescent moon. Each snowman is uniquely decorated with hats and scarves, set against a backdrop of snowflakes and trees, their faces radiating joy reminiscent of smiley art faces.

11. Winter Landscapes

These beautiful landscapes will be a sure hit with your 1st graders.  We loved these!  Use watercolor paints to paint a piece of paper with green colors.  Then, cut triangles to make your trees.  Use white paper for the ground and white paint dipped in Q-tips for snow.

Paper cutout trees on a snowy winter landscape with falling snowflakes against a bright blue sky, creating an ideal art project for kids.

12. Henri Matisse Winter Collages

I usually do a Henri Matisse shape collage with my kindergarten students.  Some years, I do it with a winter theme.  All you need to do is pick out cool colors to use as shapes.  Throw in some cut paper snowflakes, snowflake shape punches and some shimmery snowflakes for added embellishment.

13. Coffee Filter Snowflakes

Coffee filter snowflakes on a black background with the text "Coffee Filter Snowflakes" on a purple banner. An easy DIY snowflake decoration idea for crafts enthusiasts.

Simply draw on coffee filters with washable markers, spray with water, let dry.  Then fold and cut out your snowflake shapes.

14. Evergreen Trees for Kindergarten

These winter trees were made with Kwik Stix and white paint.  Easy for Kindergarten to do!

15. Winter House Pop-Ups

A paper craft house with patterned walls, green triangular trees, and a red roof stands on a decorated surface featuring crayon and marker drawings—perfect inspiration for winter art projects.

These winter pop-up houses got lots of compliments when they were all displayed in our front case. Nic Hahn has a great video tutorial and template in her TPT shop!

What winter art projects would you add to this list?
