How to Organize Ribbon for Kids

I figured out a way to store ribbon for kids to use without making a tangled mess.

First, cut your ribbon into about 2 feet length pieces.  Smaller scraps are ok too.  Get a big plastic see-through jar to hold them in.  I used this old Cheez Puff container.  Let the kids pick from this container, rather than from the rolls.  The shorter lengths won’t get tangled much and most kids won’t need that much in a project anyway.

Store your leftover “back-up” ribbon with the ends taped so they don’t unravel.  As your ribbon gets used up, replenish it from this container.  Don’t let the kids dig through it!  Seems simple, but it makes things so much easier.

A plastic bin filled with various spools of colorful ribbons and bows, along with a pair of scissors on the side, makes for excellent kids' craft organization.

Ribbon is a great thing to put on your “Wish List” of donations to the art room.  Ribbon is one of those things that people tend to have around the house and are willing to donate.  None of the ribbon in these photos were purchased.
