Peace Sign Art with Kids

Here is a fun art project I taught kids awhile back. I have been going through my picture files and rediscovering old projects that I want to try again. I have lots of art projects in my archives that I have never blogged about before. I was thinking this summer I can post a few of them.

First, read a book about PEACE. I like Peace is an Offering, by Annette LeBox or The Peace Book, by Todd Parr. (These are Affiliate links which cost no extra money to you. Thanks for supporting my blog.) Talk about what peace is and what peace means to you.

Use the Peace sign template or draw your own. Photocopy the peace sign template onto thick cardstock. Color in and decorate the peace sign with watercolor paints or markers. You can write words around the image if you’d like. The first two are my artworks and the rest are student works. (I came up with the idea to mount them and add words after I did this lesson with my students. Next time I will have them add the writing.)

One other project you can do with this is making Peace Prints with styrofoam plates and have the kids draw things that show what they think of when they think of peace.

Have you made any artwork with your students using the theme of peace? Tell us about it in the comments.
