I am Human, a book by Susan Verde & Peter Reynolds

I wanted to share with you a new book that just came out that I discovered!  It is called I am Human and it is written by Susan Verde and illustrated by Peter Reynolds.   I LOVE the illustrations of Peter Reynolds.  The two of them have collaborated before on books before that I’ve enjoyed in my classroom, including I am Peace and The Museum.  Peter is also the author of the very popular art book The Dot, which has inspired the Dot Day art day which is celebrated all around the world.  (Amazon Affiliate links have been used in this post, at no extra cost to you.)

I am Human.

But being human means

I am not perfect.

I make mistakes.

From the book description, “Being human means we are full of possibility.  We learn, we dream, we wonder at the world around us.  But we also make mistakes and can feel fearful or sad.

I am Human affirms that we can make good choices by acting with compassion and having empathy for others and ourselves.  When we find common ground, we can feel connected to the great world around us and mindfully strive to be our best selves.”

I love how positive this book is and it really shows kids the different emotions and complexities of being human.  I love that it gives an encouraging message to the readers about how we can grow from our mistakes, forgive others and be the best version of ourselves.  It gives a message of how we are all connected as humans.

What art project might you do after reading this book?
