God’s Eyes Woven Wall Hanging

My 3rd and 4th grade class just finished making woven God’s Eyes (Ojos de Dios).  Students chose yarn and wrapped the strands around the sticks.  Then they were all tied to a large stick I found in my neighbor’s yard.  Some kids made multiples so they could take one home right away. I was surprised how almost all of them had never made these before.  I guess I went to a lot of summer camps where we made stuff with our hands.  After making these, we are moving on to weavings on cardboard looms.

Here is one step-by-step demo from The Caron Collection.  Here is another from Aunt Annie’s crafts.

Several colorful yarn mandalas, known as God's Eyes, made by weaving yarn around sticks, hanging on a slanted branch mounted on a wall. A wall hanging with colorful diamond-shaped yarn art pieces, often known as God's Eyes, suspended from a branch. Colorful woven wall hangings, known as God's Eyes, dangle from a branch on a white wall. Woven wall hangings known as God's Eyes in various colors, including purple and green, hanging vertically against a white wall. Three colorful yarn mandalas hanging on a wall with wooden sticks forming diamond shapes create a striking God's Eyes wall decor.

  1. You must be an excellent teacher, and you have very talented students. Even the color choices by some of the students are so much more elegant than the usual mix. I cannot make a non-ugly weaving of anything. One can never, ever, underestimate the power of encouraging and creative instruction.
