Our school is building an addition, so I thought projects related to “building” would be fun.  Legos are the perfect building blocks!

So, we designed our own mini-figures with this template.  I originally saw this idea from The Art Teacher’s Closet.

Nine colorful drawings of Lego characters in a grid on a yellow background, each with unique outfits and details.

We also stamped with Legos (idea via Lego Stamping from Filth Wizardry).  Thanks to wonderful bloggers for these two ideas!  My students LOVED them!  They were so excited about these proejcts.

A collage of children's Lego art projects created by printing with LEGOs, featuring colorful patterns and designs, with the text "PRINTING WITH LEGOS" in the center.
Four abstract geometrical drawings with various shapes and colors on white backgrounds with scalloped edges.

Place your piece of paper on top of a piece of felt (to allow some squish room).  Then, get your Legos full of black rubberstamp ink and press on the paper.  We also used game pieces from the game Perfection.  I lucked out and found two of these games at a garage sale this summer.

If the ink pads became slightly dried out we used Avery Carter’s Stamp Pad Inker to add more ink to the stamp pad.

Black ink stamping on white paper depicts a simple vehicle with circular wheels, a rectangular body, a gear shape on top, and radiating lines—resembling creative Lego art projects.

After the papers were dry, we used black pens to go over some of the areas that did not turn out dark enough.  Then we used markers and colored pencils to color.

Here are some photos of the finished bulletin board display:

  1. What a great project! I teach 5-12 year-olds at an arts nonprofit and this looks like something they would absolutely love. Thank you for posting so many details, and for sharing the students’ beautiful creations! I can’t wait to try this with my own kids.
