Aquamarkers Review

The awesome people from ColArt (which is the company that represents the brands of Reeves, Liquitex, Winsor & Newton, Conté à Paris, Snazaroo and other well-known brands) sent me a “swag bag” of fun product samples to try out and share with you.  Many of these I had heard of and tried before, so I was super excited to get this package.

Art Supplies

Here is the bag of supplies I received.. face paint, Conte chalk, crayons, paint brushes, etc.

Reeves crayons

My daughter Daria had fun trying out the Reeves crayons.

I love that she is starting to draw faces!

Some of my favorite supplies from this company are the Liquitex Paints.

Personally, I like to use the Liquitex heavy body acrylics for my own paintings.  At school, we have a whole set of the Liquitex Basics acrylic paints which are great for painting sculptures.  They can stain clothes, so be sure to use smocks.

For watercolor painting, one of the brands we use at school (which were also in this “swag bag”) is the Reeves water colour tubes.  I find them affordable and they go a long way.  The middle school teacher uses them more often with her students, as I prefer to use the pan watercolors with the little kids.

Another interesting supply that I had not seen before is the Liquitex paint marker.  It started up easily and had a nice vibrant color.  I will have to try it out more to see how it works over time. I’ve had trouble at school with other paint markers drying out quickly, clogging or the tips falling out (what a mess!).  This one has a chisel tip and shows up on top of magazine images, watercolor paint and acrylic paint (not black).  You can request a free sample on their website!

The Letraset Aquamarkers are also pretty cool.  I have purchased these before and I have enjoyed using them.  I will demonstrate how they work for you.

My daughter insisted that I draw her Care Bear.  So, here is a quick sketch of “Cheer Bear”, using the Aquamarkers.

Aqua marker step one

First, I drew the outline of the Care Bear and added some color. These markers have a fine tip and a thicker tip.  Eek, the side of the face is a little funky.  Again, this was a quick sketch!

Next, I used a paintbrush dipped in water to spread the marker. The ink is water-soluble, which means it will "bleed" and spread when water is added.

After the water was dry, I added details with other markers. Daria was pleased with my drawing.

Thanks ColArt for the samples!
