Cool Hands, Warm Heart (Kindergarten)

I’m still catching up on sharing projects from last year!  This is an easy lesson to teach kindergarteners about cool colors vs. warm colors.  First, show the kids how to trace their hands, while leaving space in between for a heart.  Then, demonstrate how to draw a heart and have the kids draw one too.  Ask the kids if they know what are the cool colors and then what are the warm colors.

Color the hands with cool colors:  blues, purples and greens.

Color the heart with warm colors:  reds, yellows and oranges.

Outline the heart and hands with black Sharpie marker.

Colorful drawings of two hands and a heart evoke a warm heart against a white background.
Cool Hands Warm Heart: Colorful handprints and a heart drawn with crayon on a white background create a charming kindergarten masterpiece.
Kindergarten art featuring cool hands—a green and blue-green handprint—flanking a large orange and pink heart captures the spirit of "Cool Hands Warm Heart" on a crisp white background.

  1. This is a gorgeous activity – I’m always telling my students if they have cool hands they must have a warm heart! Will have to try this with them during the week. Thanks for the inspiration!
