Heart Art Projects for Kids

Now is the time to start planning for Valentine’s Day art projects.  I am going to share with you a few heart art projects I have taught in my school.

First is the Map of My Heart. It is one of my favorites.

I found the heart map idea in this book, Playful Learning.  Start by drawing a heart in pencil on your paper.  Think of all the things that you love or that are important to you.  What is in your heart?  Draw pictures and write words.  Outline all of the pictures with permanent marker or pen.  Use watercolor paints to add color.

The next heart art project is the same idea, but using only markers or colored pencils.  I created a template and PDF guide for sale in my Teachers Pay Teachers shop for only $0.99.  This is perfect for when you want a no-mess, print & go activity or if you teach in a classroom setting and need more guidance.  Clearly you could do this without any template, but when you are crunched for time this is a good option.

I went to my daughter’s school and did this as a short art/reading lesson with her class.  A great book to read along with this project is called The Shape of My Heart.

Another heart project I like is the Romero Britto-Inspired Heart.

His abstract pop art style is fun to try using different themes as well.  Here are some we tried using animals.

Another great book to go along with Valentine’s Day art projects is In My Heart.

The last heart art project I wanted to share with you today is the Confetti Hearts.  I wrote all of the details on this blog post.

Okay, I lied.  I found one more cool heart art project in my archives to share with you.  It is a Page of Hearts,  9 hearts to test out different media.  Look at all the fun TEXTURE! Read more in this blog post.
