Chicks at School

We have some chicks at school.  Chicks, like baby chickens. One of the science teachers taught the kids about the life cycle of chickens and the kids watched as the eggs were incubated and hatched.

They grow so quickly!

With all the excitement of the hatching chicks, the students were thrilled to create some chick artwork.  Here is a mural/bulletin board that students in grades 2-3 worked together on.

Next, we did a step-by-step project in kindergarten to make a nest with birds.

The first step was to cut out a nest from brown paper.  After gluing the nest to paper, they ripped out other papers to add texture to the nest.

The students traced tape rolls and little plastic paint cups to make circles for the body.

Then they cut out the body.

Beaks were added with construction paper, eyes were drawn on with marker and feathers were glued to the birds.

I love how the birds all have their own personality.

This bird looks like how I would imagine Magritte to make a picture of a chick.

What an adorable project for the elementary students! It’s great that it goes along with the science department too.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
